Ballincollig 1-9
Inniscarra 2-6
Ballincollig staged a last quarter comeback to
rescue a draw in the PIHC opening round at Cloughduv
last Sunday afternoon. After conceding two soft
goals early into the second half, Ballincollig
looked in real trouble, but an explosive goal from
captain Eoin Hegarty, after John O'Dwyer offloaded
the sliothar intelligently, put them right back in
it.
Dan Dwyer's side dominated the game from there but
only had a point from the outstanding John Miskella
to show for their efforts, with a number of great
chances dropping short or wide. In the finish Niall
Allen broke the sliothar to Derek Beale and he did
very well to engineer a free that John O'Dwyer
slotted over for a late equaliser.
A draw was probably about right because at the end
of a tame first half it was 0-5 apiece, with
Inniscarra wasting a fair few chances themselves
with the wind. The switch of John Miskella out to
midfield made a real impact, but with both half-back
lines doing well (in fact Inniscarra's right
half-back
Willie Ryan played his way onto the Cork minor team
versus Limerick after a great game), clear-cut
chances were limited.
The replay is on this Saturday night in Cloughduv at
7pm. Hopefully the team will drive on after getting
a game under their belts - remember Inniscarra focus
on hurling while Ballincollig had seven starters who
played against Skibb in football. And with 11 of
last year's mid Cork U21 winning side featuring last
Sunday, the experience will benefit the team no end.
Scorers: John O'Dwyer 0-6 f, Eoin Hegarty 1-0, Alan
Donovan 0-2 f, John Miskella 0-1.
BALLINCOLLIG: Trevor Galvin; Michael O'Brien, Noel
Galvin, JP Murphy; Steve O'Donoghue, Rory O'Doherty,

Alan Donovan, John Miskella, John O'Dwyer.

Senior Football
The back-door match with St Nick's will take place
in Ballygarvan on either May 17/18 or May 31/June 1,
depending on the result this Saturday against
Inniscarra in the hurling. The team play Mallow in a
challenge match this Sunday at 12 noon.
Junior A Hurling
The first round of the championship takes place in
Ballyanley at 7.30 this Sunday evening against
Blarney. They lost a league match to Ballinora
earlier in the week but should be able to give a
creditable championship performance.
Best of luck to all involved, a PIHC-JAHC double
would make for a great weekend.
Junior B Hurling
Upcoming matches are tonight (Friday May 9) at 8pm
against Dripsey and Wednesday May 14 at home to
Iveleary.
Junior B Football
James O'Reilly's motley crew are up and running and
have played two games in the last week - a challenge
match win over Nemo (1-9 to 1-6) and a defeat to
Éire Óg (0-8 to 1-9) in the league. There's been
huge interest so far, with 25 plus players at each
game so hopefully it will be a long and enjoyable
season with plenty of challenge games on the
horizon. |
